The Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program
The 1988 Florida Legislature, recognizing the essential role that teachers play in preparing Florida's students for high academic achievement, life-long professions and vocations, and for successful, productive citizenry, passed the Excellent Teaching Program Act. The program was renamed the Excellent Teaching Program Act. The program was renamed the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program in 2002. The 2008 Florida Legislature adopted substantial changes to the program. The purposes of this program are to provide bonuses to teachers:
1.) Who attain certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and who mentor non-NBPTS teachers.
2.) NBPTS certified teachers who mentor non-NBPTS Florida teachers.
Teacher of the Year
This program recognizes and honors classroom teachers/educators who have demonstrated a superior capacity to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership
This program recognizes exemplary principals for their contributions to their schools and communities.
Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award
This program recognizes exemplary assistant principals for their contributions to their schools and communities.
School-Related Employee of the Year
This program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for the significant contributions they make to their schools and district school systems.
