Recognizing Excellence

The Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program

The 1988 Florida Legislature, recognizing the essential role that teachers play in preparing Florida's students for high academic achievement, life-long professions and vocations, and for successful, productive citizenry, passed the Excellent Teaching Program Act. The program was named the Excellent Teaching Program Act, and in 2002, the program was renamed the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program. The 2008 Florida Legislature adopted substantial changes to the program. The purposes of this program are to provide bonuses to:

1.) Teachers attain certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) and who mentor non-NBPTS teachers.

2.) NBPTS certified teachers who mentor non-NBPTS Florida teachers.
